Pool Deck Resurfacing Cost
Deck resurfacing runs $6–$14 per square foot depending on the system. For a typical 600 sq ft deck that is $3,600–$8,400 — against $7,200–$15,600 to tear the slab out and replace it.
Typical national range
$3,600–$8,400
Typical 600 sq ft pool deck, acrylic texture through paver overlay, over a structurally sound slab. Sub-base repair and drainage correction excluded.
What this project needs measured
Measurements are only requested when they change the price of the work you selected. Everything below is collected inside the estimator — you can enter dimensions you already know or measure as you go.
Required
Pool deck area
Deck work is priced by square footage, and the condition of the existing slab changes the preparation cost.
Only if it applies
Pool perimeter (linear feet)
Tile and coping are priced by the linear foot around the pool edge.
Cost by deck area and system
| Deck area | Acrylic texture | Micro-topping | Stamped overlay | Paver overlay |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 400 sq ft | $2,400–$3,600 | $2,800–$4,400 | $3,600–$5,600 | $4,400–$7,200 |
| 600 sq ft | $3,600–$5,400 | $4,200–$6,600 | $5,400–$8,400 | $6,600–$10,800 |
| 900 sq ft | $5,400–$8,100 | $6,300–$9,900 | $8,100–$12,600 | $9,900–$16,200 |
| 1,200 sq ft | $7,200–$10,800 | $8,400–$13,200 | $10,800–$16,800 | $13,200–$21,600 |
Resurfacing against replacement
Replacement costs roughly twice as much, so the question is only ever whether the slab justifies it. It does when the concrete is structurally compromised, and it does not when the surface is simply worn or dated.
| Approach | Cost | Life | Fixes structural problems? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Resurface | $3,600–$8,400 | 8–15 years | No |
| Tear out and replace | $7,200–$15,600 | 25–40 years | Yes |
| Replace and regrade drainage | $8,400–$18,000 | 25–40 years | Yes |
Preparation is most of the quote variance
Two quotes for the same overlay on the same deck can differ by thousands, and the difference is nearly always in the preparation. It is also what determines whether the surface lasts eight years or fifteen.
| Item | Typical cost | When it applies |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure wash and clean | Included | Always |
| Diamond grinding / profiling | $1–$2.50 / sq ft | Where the slab is sealed or slick |
| Stripping a previous coating | $2–$4 / sq ft | Deck has been resurfaced before |
| Crack routing and filling | $8–$30 / linear ft | Any visible cracking |
| Spall patching | $10–$20 / sq ft | Flaking or delaminated areas |
| Expansion joint replacement | $8–$14 / linear ft | Joint has failed or filled with debris |
What else affects the price
- Complexity. Steps, curves, raised areas and multiple levels all raise the per-square-foot rate.
- Colour and pattern. Multi-colour and stamped work costs more in labour than a single-colour texture.
- Access. Material delivery to a backyard reachable only through a side gate.
- Weather window. Overlays need dry conditions within a temperature range, which in some regions constrains scheduling and cost.
- Coping interface. How the new surface terminates at the pool edge.
- Regional labour. Up to a 25% swing between the markets PoolSavr models.
How to read a PoolSavr estimate
- Step 1
Instant estimate
Based on your project selections and general pricing assumptions. Useful for deciding whether a project is realistic.
- Step 2
Measured estimate
Uses your pool, spa, or deck dimensions to price the work against the areas actually being resurfaced, tiled, or replaced.
- Step 3
Contractor proposal
Prepared by a licensed professional after inspecting the site. This is the only number that becomes a contract.
PoolSavr is an estimating and matching platform. We do not perform pool work ourselves — licensed local professionals do. Contractors pay PoolSavr for qualified project leads, which is how the estimating tools stay free for homeowners. Frequently asked questions
- How much does pool deck resurfacing cost?
- Typically $6–$14 per square foot, so roughly $3,600–$8,400 for a 600 sq ft deck. Paver overlays run higher, at $11–$18 per square foot. Crack repair and other preparation are additional.
- Is resurfacing cheaper than replacing the deck?
- Roughly half the cost — $6–$14 per square foot against $12–$26. But it only makes sense over a structurally sound slab. Resurfacing a slab that is cracking from movement means paying for the overlay and then still needing the replacement.
- How long does a resurfaced pool deck last?
- Eight to fifteen years for acrylic and stamped overlays, longer for pavers. Preparation quality matters more than the product: a well-prepared cheap system outlasts a premium one applied over an unprepared slab.
- Why do quotes vary so much for the same deck?
- Almost always preparation. Grinding, crack routing, spall patching and stripping a previous coating can add several dollars per square foot, and a quote that omits them looks cheaper while producing a shorter-lived result. Compare on preparation scope.
- Can I resurface a deck that has already been resurfaced?
- Usually, but the old coating generally has to come off first, which adds $2–$4 per square foot. Applying a new overlay over a failing one means the new surface fails with it.
