The costs that are easy to miss
Coping quotes are among the most commonly under-scoped in pool remodeling, because removal disturbs things that were not visible when the quote was written.
- Deck repair at the edge — $400–$1,800. Removing coping disturbs the first several inches of deck. That has to be made good, and a quote that omits it is incomplete.
- Expansion joint replacement — $8–$14 per linear foot. The only convenient moment to do this properly. Skipping it is why new coping cracks like the old coping did.
- Bond beam repair — $500–$2,500. Deterioration at the top of the shell, revealed once the coping is off.
- Waterline tile — $35–$70 per linear foot. The top row nearly always comes off with the coping.
- Mortar bed rebuilding. Where the existing bed has failed rather than simply aged.
